5 Things You Can Put on an Altar That You Probably Already Own

Updated: Sep 18
You don’t need to go shopping to build an altar. Chances are, you already own plenty of things that can become part of your sacred space.
Here are five places to start:
1. A Bowl or Dish That little bowl sitting in your kitchen? It can hold offerings, herbs, crystals, water, or other items you use in your practice.

2. A Candle Use one you already have. Candles can represent fire, create atmosphere, mark the beginning of a ritual, or support a specific intention.

3. Something From Nature A fallen leaf, stone, flower, shell, pinecone, or other responsibly collected item can bring a connection to nature and the seasons into your space.

4. Something Meaningful to You A photograph, piece of jewelry, family heirloom, handwritten note, or tiny object you've kept for years belongs there if it holds meaning for you.

5. Something You Made Artwork, a handmade charm, dried flowers, a written intention, a sigil—your altar doesn't have to be filled with things someone else created.

Your Altar Doesn't Need a Shopping List
An altar isn't made sacred by how much you spent on it. Start with the things around you - choose what has meaning, move things around, add and remove pieces as your practice changes.
It doesn't have to look like an altar you saw on Pinterest.
It just has to feel like yours.
