“Can I Change a Spell I Found Online?”

Short answer? Yes.
A spell you find in a book, online, or somewhere else doesn’t have to be followed word for word to be meaningful.
Instead of asking, “Do I have every ingredient?” try asking why each ingredient is there in the first place. If a spell calls for rosemary because of its protective associations and you don’t have rosemary, look at what you do have. Is there another herb, object, color, or ingredient you associate with protection?
You can also change the words, simplify the steps, leave something out, or add something that holds personal meaning for you.
The goal isn’t to recreate someone else’s practice perfectly.
It’s to understand the intention behind what you’re doing—and then make choices that make sense in your practice. Think of a spell as a starting point, not a script.
Learn. Experiment. Make substitutions. Take notes. Pay attention to what resonates.
The most meaningful magick is the magick you make your own.
